On Monday, City Hall in Florida City was converted into the Upper Keys Government Center. Set designers for the Netflix Drama Bloodline decorated the corridors of South Dade’s southernmost municipality into the Upper Keys set for the streaming series.

The Key Largo-based Bloodline is currently filming their third season around South Dade and the Upper Keys.

The producers picked the location because they thought it looked how a government building in the Keys should look like.

“They thought this looked more like the Keys than the Keys,” recalled Florida City Mayor Otis Wallace.

A location scout toured the building and liked what they saw. The building itself has lush courtyards with tropical greenery accented with wildlife decorations. The walls are painted a bright yellow and lime green. A handsome tower sports a big round clock.

This was actually the second time this location had been used. Two years ago the crew used the city’s conference room for their shoot.

This time around a hefty sign, which appeared bronze but could have just been Hollywood magic, hung at the busiest intersection of the building with the seal of Monroe County hovering above the “Upper Keys Government Center” moniker. Clam shell images were added to the sign for some additional flare.

There was also a directory constructed for the fake center. Visitors for the show’s State Attorney were sent to the 1st floor of the 3rd building.

By the afternoon the premises were full of filming crews hovering about the building.

Still for most of the day, City Hall was still operating. Residents went in to pay bills and the staff conducted their business.

Wallace moved his meetings to various locations as the city’s meeting room was being used to film. Wallace told the News Leader he didn’t mind moving around while the producers shot in his quarters.

Mario Van Peebles took a moment to greet Wallace as the mayor walked towards his other meeting. Wallace and Van Peebles had previously met each other while the actor slash activist was campaigning for Barack Obama in South Dade.

During that quick conversation, one the stars of the series, Kyle Chandler, causally walked behind them while traversing the active set.

Various Florida City locations are on file with the Miami Film Office, which help provide many locations productions may wish to shoot in.

Bloodline can be seen on the streaming service Netflix.
