The Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre Board of Directors is proud to announce the recipient of this year’s Betty Callabrese Award to Mr. Scott Davis, Director of Bands at South Dade High School in Homestead.
As a founding member of the Seminole Theatre Board of Directors, and a woman of vision and determination, Betty Calabrese was convinced that a former movie theatre in downtown Homestead could one day transform into a thriving Performing Arts Center. In recognition of this vision and determination the Seminole Theatre Board of Directors annually honor a local citizen with the Betty Callabrese Award, in recognition of someone who contributes to the Performing Arts in our community.
This year the board is proud to announce the recipient is Mr. Scott Davis, Director of Bands at South Dade High School in Homestead, Florida. Mr. Davis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Penn State University and his Master of Music in Instrumental Music from the University of Miami.
As a teacher, Mr. Davis is active in the National Association of Music Education, the Florida Music Educators Association and the Florida’s Bandmaster Association. At South Dade Senior, Mr. Davis directs the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, the Buccaneer Marching Band and the Beginning Band classes. He also teaches AP Music Theory and lessons to his Visual and Performing Art Magnet students.
“We are proud to recognize this gifted music teacher with the Betty Callabrese Award at this year’s Gala” stated Dr. Linda Fagan, President of the Friends of the Seminole Theatre Board of Directors.
