On Saturday I went to see The Backbeat Band at Simmon's Bar in Homestead. Normally they are a four piece band, but on this night the band consisted of Gabe Rodriguez on the drums, Jorge Tercilla on the upright bass (yeah, you read it right, an upright bass) & sitting in on guitar & vocals was Max Torchut from my band, The Catch.

They played four sets of Blues, Classic Rock & even a Country song (by request). From Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton to Albert King, they rocked a great selection of cover tunes.

Even though it was a rainy night, it was also a Halloween party, complete with a costume contest & The Backbeat Band had a pretty good crowd there at Simmon's & they kept everyone's spirits up... And of course, bartenders Sharon Sikes & Lydia Monsour kept the spirits flowing. Thanks ladies, you rock!

You definitely have to check these guys out - www.facebook.com/backbeatbandmiami/, go there to find out where they'll be playing next.

Sunday evening, I headed over to The Glades Club in the Redland for yet another Halloween party. Performing there, under the tiki, were my good friends The Dropouts... Now here's a band you don't want to miss!

The Dropouts are, Tony Cruz on guitar & vocals, his better half Mabel Garcia on vocals, Efrain Luciano on bass, Jered Rutan on lead guitar & Angel Romero on the drums... Let me tell you, the talent & experience of the musicians in this band shows in every note they play. They're tight, they're exciting, they're solid & they “Rock the House” whenever they play, all enhanced by Mabel's sweet smile & powerful yet angelic voice.

It was a great Halloween party & The Glades Club went all out with awesome decorations, a buffet of food, drink specials & even a costume contest. Among a T-Rex, Cleopatra, a killer clown & many others, a very tall, bloody priest won a $50 bar tab. There was lots of fun to be had!

Throughout the evening The Dropouts had everyone up & dancing with tunes from Janis Joplin, Bruno Mars, Tom Petty, Journey, The Doors & so many more... Find them at facebook.com/thedropoutsmiami/
