Homestead Police Detectives are investigating a dead body that was found on NW Second Street and Fifth Avenue. A yellow tarp covered the body of Ramon Arancibia, which lay next to a shopping cart full of his belongings.

“A neighbor woke up, went to walk the dog and found the body,” said Homestead Police Detective Fernando Morales. “It seems as if he was walking along the road and collapsed. There are no signs of blunt trauma, but the investigation is ongoing.”

Arancibia’s body was found around 9:45 a.m. on Monday. Witnesses said he was seen often in the area.

“I didn’t see the body earlier this morning when I went outside,” said one witness. “I saw the fire truck, his shopping cart and the tarp on the floor. I knew who it was. He is around here a lot.”

Morales said Arancibia has been arrested in the past.

“He had prior alcohol related arrests,” Morales said.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
