Miami-Dade Police are investigating a police shooting involving a Homestead police officer Sunday evening at 10 pm.
According to investigators, uniform officers from the City of Homestead Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at a residence
located at 979 N.E. 5 Avenue.
As officers arrived, the subject, identified by the AP as Maynor Cruz-Solis, 22, fled the scene.
During the pursuit, the Cruz-Solis rammed an officer’s vehicle. AP reports that Homestead Sgt. Jose Murillo fired his gun after colliding with the suspects SUV. Cruz-Solis was shot twice in the face and remains in critical condition at Jackson South. The shots were fired along Dixie Highway near Somerset Academy.
The Miami Herald reports that court records show Cruz-Solis has a history of drunken and violent episodes in Palm Beach County, where he lives,
including three arrests in 2019.
