The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Homicide Bureau, is investigating the death of a child.

According to homicide investigators, a resident of Tuscany Place Apartments, 25470 SW 137th Ave in Homestead,  was throwing out his trash on Sunday, when he observed what appeared to be a child inside the dumpster. He immediately called 911 and officers from the MDPD South District responded. Officers confirmed the deceased body of a young child inside the dumpster.

The child has been identified as Taina Paige, age 4.  MDPD homicide detectives arrested the child’s mother, Tina Farrington, 31, on first degree murder charges.  Farrington gave police a detailed confession.

According to investigators, on October 31st, Farrington was home with her two children and became upset with her daughter.  She proceeded to lure the victim and her brother into her bedroom, took a bedroom pillow and suffocated the child until she became unresponsive and not breathing.  Farrington stored the child’s remains in the trunk of her car for several days.  On Nov. 5th at 1:00 am, Farrington moved the body to the trash dumpster at the Tuscany Place Apartments. When the body was recovered there were bruises observed to the arms, legs and torso.
