We all look forward to retirement but fear the pitfalls of the “Golden Years,” however, many seniors are taking advantage of their leisure time by becoming members of the Golden Circle.

This program started at Community Bank and continues under the wings of Center State Bank. Its easy to join, once you reach that magic age of 55 years. Just open a personal checking account and maintain a minimum balance of $1,000.

As a member you receive many FREE, fringe benefits from the bank but most enjoyable is the Golden Circle, which for the last 14 years has been under the guidance of Evelyn Guilfoyle, who schedules a variety of entertainment and travel options at affordable prices. Included in the mix are plays, dinner outings, plus travel in the US and Europe. The group has traveled to Ireland, Canada, Hawaii, Italy, Sicily, Spain, Portugal, Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Utah, Brandon, Bimini and recently to Mackinac Island.

On Tuesday, September 11, the Golden Circle Annual Picnic was held at Homestead Bay Front Park. It started with a dedication to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. A moment of prayer preceded a beautiful wreath of red and white roses that was set afloat. Though close to 3,000 died in the attack on our nation, we are encouraged to stay strong and go on with our lives. With pride, I was chosen to lead the group in the Lords Prayer.

After the dedication was completed it was time to enjoy an expertly prepared BBQ meal catered by Smoke and Spice.

Remember if you are 55 or older you can become a member.

Perhaps we’ll see you on their next adventure.
