The Miss South Florida Scholarship Pageant, has produced local

competitions for the Miss America Organization, a national competition that started in 1921.

As an all-volunteer 501(c) (4), the South Florida Pageant offers scholarship opportunities to young ladies “of intelligence, talent, and drive displaying a commanding presence so they can represent and encourage other young women of America.” Contestants must be between the ages of 13- 25 years.

Sunday, March 24th, 13 young ladies graced the stage of the Seminole Theatre, as they competed for the titles of Miss South Florida, Miss Florida Everglages, Miss South Florida’s Teen and Miss Florida Everglades Teen.

Winners from the upper division of this pageant will compete at the state level for the title of “Miss Florida” at the end of June in Lakeland, Florida. The winner of the Miss Florida competition will compete for Miss America in September.

Unfortunately, the Miss Homestead competition was put on hold after many decades of pageantry.  According to a member of the Board of Directors, they wanted to bring back a Miss Homestead crown this year but needed nine

participants in that upper division to do so, as dictated by the state

regulations for local pageants.

As the pageant began, hosts Deanna Greist, Miss Homestead 1994, and Taylor Tyson, Miss Florida 2018 took control of the stage. They kept the program flowing with spontaneous remarks covering all unforeseen delays. Both acknowledged the opportunities they received in developing skills and self confidence during their reigns. Greist expressed her gratitude for scholarship money received that paid tuition through her masters, while Tyson told of her plans to attend law school.

Back on stage, the competition categories included in Lifestyle and Fitness, Talent, Evening Wear and ended with an On Stage Question.

And the winners are: Daniell Ball - Miss South Florida, Amanda Shoopman - Miss Florida Everglades, Madison Flowers - Miss Florida Everglades Teen and Macy Brockelbank - Miss South Florida’s Teen.

Hopefully next year, this wonderful event will draw more contestants and there will be five crowns, with Miss Homestead being reinstated. This would generate additional local interest and support. Don’t let an opportunity pass by for your daughters and granddaughters. Go to the Miss South Florida Scholarship pageant at for additional details.
