On May 30, 2018, 23 year old Juvon Simon of Florida City was shot twice through the closed door of a neighbor’s apartment by Florida City Police Officer Frantz Hardy. Simon died as a result of his injuries.

Youseline Pierre-Simon, Simon’s mother has filed a lawsuit against the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s office and The City of Florida City (legal document attached).

According to the families attorneys, the intention of the legal filing is to make sure the family has access to all evidence that materializes as part of the criminal investigation into the shooting. The family also wants to ensure that the investigation is conducted in a timely manner.

On October 31st, 2018 the Simon family and their attorneys held a press conference outside of the Florida City Government Center The Miami-Dade Police Department is handling the investigation, as they conduct all investigations of the Florida City Police Department's police-involved shootings.

The family's attorneys are urging expediancy as investigations into police shootings can take years and there is two-year statue of limitations on civil wrongful death cases.

Media reports state that family members are saying that Simon and Hardy knew each other before the shooting and Hardy would harass Simon.

"He wanted to kill him," Simon’s mother, Youseline, said in May statement to reporters.
