Work has begun at the Florida Turnpike and Campbell Drive (Exit 2) interchange. It is anticipated to continue through summer 2018.
The project cost is approximately $15 million, funded by toll and concession revenue, not taxes.
Construction will take place during daytime and nightime hours. Lane closure, reductions, detours on cross streets, and periodic construction noise, dust and vibration is to be expected.
The goal is improved traffic flow. A new northbound entrance ramp will be contructed from westbound Campbell Drive and northbound SW 152nd Avenue. The southbound exit ramp to Campbell Drive will be widened to two lanes. Campbell Drive will be widened to three lanes from SW 15700 block to NE 30th Terrace. Sound walls will be installed along residential areas adjacent to the Turnpike. And multiple improvements will be made to signage, pavement markings, signals, lighting and drainage.
