Thanksgiving came a little early for the community members of Florida City. What started out as just a simple idea in the mind of Evelyn Ruff, wife of recently deceased former chair of the Florida City Code Enforcement Board Larry Ruff, blossomed into an amazing event filled with music, ministers, and a whole lot of food.

The event was held at the Florida City Recreation Center and was hosted by the Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church Community Service Department and sponsored by the City of Florida City and local churches.

This was a scrumptious turkey dinner with delicious sides of green beans, mac & cheese, stuffing and cranberry sauce prepared for the homeless and needy families within Florida City.

Lending a helping hand to support the cause were pastors and representatives from a coalition of local churches including: House of God, New Mt Zion, Pentecostal Power Church, South Dade Haitian Free Methodist Church, Covenant Baptist Church and Mt. Calvary, providing servers, cakes, treats, sides and an abundance of support to assist in the effort. Over 200 men, women and children were fed in this joint effort effort for the community.

Also in attendance was Florida City Mayor Otis Wallace and his wife Greer Wallace, Commissioner RS Shiver, Commissioner Avis Brown and Police Chief Pedro Taylor.

Some notable pastors in attendance were Ron C. Smith II pastor of Bethel SDA Church and Pastor Thelemaque.

Special selections of music were provided by the Arthor Poly Mays Conservatory of the Arts High School Choir under the tutelage of their

director, Sarah Ruff.
